Meet Navya

Navya is the sixth generation of HSJ, a jewellery house in Lucknow since 1893. She trained in psychology, gemology and luxury brand management, then founded Navyam to turn silver into wearable art.

A note from Navya

Where I come from

I grew up inside jewellery. My family has made it since 1893, and I am the sixth generation to carry that on. It was never a career I chose so much as a world I was born into.

What I learned

I left for London to study psychology. It gave me the idea I still design by: what we wear is who we are, made visible. When I came home, I knew jewellery was where I belonged, and I wanted to learn it properly.

I trained at the International Gemological Institute in jewellery design and diamond grading, which taught me how a piece is designed and judged. Then I studied fashion business and luxury brand management at Istituto Marangoni, which taught me how a brand is built.

The piece that changed my mind

For years, diamonds and coloured stones were my world. Silver was the everyday metal. Then, inside the trade, I began to see silver become things I had never imagined wearing: brooches, ear cuffs, objects.

One day, going through HSJ’s stock, I found a brooch of Lord Krishna set with black and red stones. I couldn’t tell whether it was gold or silver, and it didn’t matter. It was art.

Why Navyam

That brooch is where Navyam began. The name is Sanskrit for “that which is new”, and it carries my own name, Navya, inside it. The calla lily on our emblem is one I wear as a tattoo. For me, it has always meant a new chapter.

What I make

Every Navyam piece is handcrafted in silver, made once and never repeated. Each one carries a story, drawn from mythology, temples and architecture, in Indian, Indo-Western and Western designs. Wherever I can, I credit the karigar whose hands made it.

I make these pieces for women who wear what they love, not what they are given. When you wear one, no one else in the world is wearing the same thing.

“Jewellery is identity, made visible.”

Silver, turned into wearable art. I hope you find the piece that says who you are.
